He tried to kidnap my colleague

You'd be surprised if an insane man is attacking your colleague with a knife and tries to take her as a hostage.

Out of nowhere

Suddenly he runs past you and grabs a large knife from the drawer. He jumps back, again passing you. At that moment all sorts of things go through your mind. Will I try to grab the knife? Will I punch him in the face? What is he doing anyway? Too late. He has passed and is heading towards your colleague.

What is he going to do?

He's calling, "I'm going to kidnap you, you are my hostage." The angry look in his eyes is giving me an anxious feeling. My colleague tries to run away, but she's not fast enough. He catches her and almost presses the knife against her throat. Meanwhile, I react by running after him and see that my colleague can defend herself. The blade is a few inches away from her throat.

The reaction

Suddenly I see an opportunity to intervene and grab the man's arm. In a reflex he drops the knife. I whack him in his face two times, and bring him to the ground quickly. He is fixed and can only scream really loudly. Adrenaline and anger race through your body. Colleagues are now on site and assist with the whole situation. Fortunately, we can transport him and everyone is unharmed.

The evaluation

Afterwards, everyone was obviously very shocked and several emotions came to the surface. Anger, but also sadness. It was very difficult to sleep that night. The whole situation crossed my mind often that night. What if he had hurt her? Could I have acted differently? Hou could we have avoided this? The important thing is that everyone is unharmed. The bond between colleagues has grown after this occurred. Still, I hope never to go through this again.
